Description

Biology had an abundance of atoms to choose to create her products.  In the biochemistry of life she decided on her 4 favorite atoms including hydrogen (most abundant atom in the universe), oxygen, nitrogen and carbon.  Through a variety of bonds and organizational patterns in an environment dominated by water and air  in a given space, with an infinite amount of time in the presence of the moon and the sun she started her work to create life.

Carbohydrates (hydrates of carbon) usually contain carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen in the ratios: 1 Carbon: 2 Hydrogens: 1 Oxygen.

All fats are derivatives of fatty acids and glycerol. They, like the carbohydrates are created from a combination of carbon hydrogen and oxygen which link and organize to form a fat soluble compound. The triglycerides consist of one unit of glycerol and three units of fatty acids

The fatty acid is usually a long chain of even number of carbons (usually between 4 to 28 each carbon allowing for 4 bonds.

Proteins are polymers constructed from a series of 20 different amino acids.  An amino acid is composed of an amine linked to an acid.  Amino acids have a two-carbon bond. One of the carbons is part of a group called the carboxyl group (COO). The second carbon is bonded to the amino group (NH2)

Artistically the surrealistic piece shows a sphere with the essential atoms of life.  Nature chooses to apportion ratios of these atoms to create her building blocks – fats carbohydrates and proteins which are shown as squares and rectangles expressing the idea of the components shaped like bricks that make up biology .  The molecules themselves are shown in the shape of a sphere within the blocks.  Context and environment are extremely important.  The misty mysterious and magical environment with a sun shining on the water with a few rocks at bottom right create a mystical environment that is warmed by the sun .  The finite detail of the elements outlined by defined letters and numbers is in distinct contrast to the abstract background and ethereal sky.

The story up to now has been in the context of the universal space.  We have now come down to earth. The central color of green is contrast to the red of the big bang explosion and the blue colors of the waters.
