Description

“Anatomy of the Foot Bones From Above ” shows the reconstructed 3D CT scan  of a ballet dancer in en pointe on tip of her toes as if she was looking at her own feet .  The anatomy of the bones of her feet are fully exposed.  The shin bones called the tibia and fibula transfer the weight of the body to the talus, which rests on the heel bone or calcaneus as well as the navicular.  The navicular transfers its weight to the cuneiforms. The calcaneus transmits the weight to the cuboid which rests partly on the lateral cuneiform.  Both the cuneiforms and the cuboid transfer the weight to the metatarsals which in turn transfer to the phalanges.

The ability of the muscles, bones and neural mechanisms is an exercise in balance allowing the dancer tofloat like a nymph.
