Description

The story of the liver is displayed in the collage from the time of early embryonic development.  The art piece displays the manner in which the cells organize to form the organ and its connections to the rest of the body.

From an educational perspective the art piece shows the liver budding off from foregut elements.  The cell with nucleus and cytoplasm advances to become plates of cells organized along the sinusoids.  Thereafter the liver lobule organized around the central vein is formed.  The anatomic specimen with  characteristic pyramidal shape follows.  The hepatic veins, portal vein, hepatic artery, and bile ducts play a crucial role of connecting the liver with other foregut organs.

Artistically the collage is a potpourri of different shapes and colors.

Philosophically, the units to unity concept is portrayed as the parts build up to form the whole.
